Let's start off by saying that my day at work didn't start of too bad. It was about two hours into it that things started to go hay wire. I was in the express lane which should be the fastest lane right? WRONG! Not today, just about every customer had some kind of problem or one of their items wouldn't scan at the right price. (Of course, the customer thinks this is your fault because you are the one running the scanner.) I think I talked to every department in the whole store at least 5 times tonight to fix some problem with a price. I had one customer grab a bundle of daises and ask if she could get a discount because TWO of the flowers got smashed while she was shopping around the store! I called over to garden and she got 20% off! Can you believe that?
Now, I don't have a problem with the "last minute shoppers," after all I am one of them.. however, do they ALL have to in and shop at the same time??? Saturday is usually really hectic at our store but, the last three days have been CRAZY! There wasn't a slow moment until about 11:15 PM tonight. (We close at 11:00 PM) GRRR..
My last vent story for the night is as follows..
A little history first.
We have a couple of ladies that come into our store every week that get 20-30 of the same items (usually sale items) and "somehow" have 20-30 coupons for each bunch of items in their cart. Most of the items are on sale for a dollar and "magically" their coupon is for a dollar! Let me tell you the problem with this.
1. Most of the coupons say in fine print "ONE COUPON PER PURCHASE" if we took them, we would lose money and they would walk away with a lot of free stuff.
2. We could do this IF they want to separate EACH item on a different transaction. :(
3. We know that they steal from the newspaper company to get these coupons, because the newspaper company informed us of this. They used to be employed there and had been stealing for awhile apparently.
4. Lastly, our managers have told us not to take their coupons.
Need I go on?
Back to the point.
Tonight, one of these customers came into my line. She waited until I had everything rung up to pull out her coupons. She had 15 boxes of cake mix ($1.00 sale) 18 cans of tropical fruit, and a few other items.. She hands me her stack of coupons about ----------------------- yeah thick.. lol and I start reading the fine print where it says "one coupon per purchase..." So, I tell her that I can't use all of them unless we separate the orders. She decides that she will only buy one of each thing. So, I had to VOID out most of the order and get a manager's override. She was very nice about it and she went on her way having only paid $15.80. The crappy part of this whole story is what came afterwards. The STUPID guy from REGIONAL just happened to be behind her this whole time and was STEAMED that he had to wait so long. He yelled at me the ENTIRE TIME that I was checking his items! He said that I was in the WRONG and that even though MY MANAGER told us NOT TO TAKE THE COUPONS that I should have just taken them and "Regional would have taken care of the problem later!!!" Now, what is regional gonna do?? Umm, yeah.. I'm gonna go with NOTHING! He told me that it was unfair to punish those behind that customer by making them wait longer to get checked out! Even explaining the situation to this guy didn't help him to shut up.. Oh yeah and the next TWO sets of customers behind HIM.. heard him yelling at me and had to put their two cents in as well. I tell you, if I didn't need the money.. I would have WALKED OUT, THEN AND THERE.
I told my managers about what had gone down and they were pretty steamed at that guy too. They said he had no right to do that to me. I agree. That was ridiculous. I knew I should have called in sick.
At least I have the next two days off. BOO for BLACK FRIDAY! lol
