We started out finishing some of the framework that wasn't done in the family room, hallway and the bathroom. Then Hyrum and his dad figured out where they wanted to put all the outlets and lights in the family room.
After all that was done we got a few quotes on insulation. We decided on one and two weeks later, viola! Insulation was done. Things were starting to really come together.
After a few busy weeks of recitals, Hyrum did the plumbing for the bathroom. We extended the bathroom six inches into the storage room since the bathroom was so tiny. Hyrum had jack hammer the floor and move the toilet to the other side since we made more room. After he installed the bathtub we found the toilet was too close to it so he had to jack hammer the floor again and move the toilet a few more inches way.
We looked at the original floor plan for the basement and found that one of the already finished rooms was supposed to be two rooms and that the closet in that room was supposed to be the storage room. So we took the closet door out and put it in the hallway where it was supposed to go, framed up a wall down the center of the room and made it into two rooms. Hyrum and my brother Jeremy built new closets for both rooms. We also took the ridiculous half wall out and the log holding the half wall up. It was a beautiful thing, I hated that so bad.
Andy and his cousin Collin were very willing to help out, especially if they got to use the shop vac.
The wall in the picture above is the closet for the other room. That had to be torn out and rebuilt into the other room so that this room wouldn't be to small. I helped out with this demolition. It was really fun.
Right before we had the sheet rock guys come we decided to install a gas line up into the kitchen for that "future" gas stove. Love those surprise projects.
The sheet rock guys came and worked on the basement for what seemed like an eternity. It took them two weeks. We were last on the list everyday so, they didn't show up until the afternoon if they showed up at all. It was pretty frustrating. Anyways, when they were finally done it looked great.
It was finally time to paint. We picked out all the colors and the trim that we wanted and got to work. Hyrum primed all the trim, the ceilings, walls and the doors. Then he put all the trim up and sprayed them all. I got the lucky job of masking everything off so we could paint. That is one of my least favorite things about painting, the prep work. (Not to toot my own horn but, I'm pretty good at it too) Progress was slowing down so, I decided to start painting the walls myself. Waiting until Hyrum to get home from work, and eating dinner would take too long and it would get too dark to paint. So, I painted during the day. In between loads of laundry and when Madelyn was taking naps I would apply the coats. My favorite part of painting is pulling the tape off and seeing those crisp edges. Ahh.. love it!
Family room
You can't tell in this picture but, the far wall is a darker color that the other walls.
Lyllee's purple room.
Andy's green room, the color is Celery.
The guest bedroom, this is the darker color (accent wall) in the family room.
Before we could get the carpet we needed to tile the bathroom floor. The carpet guys said that it would look better to butt up the carpet to the tile instead of putting one of those metal bars across the doorway. So we borrowed my brother's tile saw and figured out how to tile. Hyrum did an amazing job considering it was his first official tiling job. He let me help grout the shower tile. That was pretty cool.
We got the carpet installed a few weeks later. It's amazing how different a room can look just by adding carpet.
We are still adding outlet covers and putting finishing touches everwhere but, it's done and best of all we can spread out again. Lyllee and Andy absolutely love having their own rooms, and bathroom downstairs.
